Young, Opal Joyce Hundley
Opal Joyce Hundley Young, 77, of Copper Hill and Floyd, departed this life for her heavenly home, surrounded by her family on September 5, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Guy and Flora Poff Hundley, her sisters and brothers- in-law, Reba and Carl Craighead and Genova and Early Conner and brother Burton Hundley. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Keith Baer Young; her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mark Hodges, of Willis and Sheree and Mack Montgomery, of Willis; her sons and daughters-in-law, Keith Barry and Sharon Young, of Check, Terry and Brenda Young, of Salem, and Curtis Sloane, of Roanoke. Also surviving are her precious grandchildren, Dana Young (Roanoke), Brandon and Angela Hodges, of Willis, Matthew Montgomery and Erin Yearout-Patton, of Powhatan, Ashleylachell Young, of Richmond, Sheena Young, of Roanoke, Mack Montgomery Jr., of Willis, Mekaila Young, of Check, Arlene Montgomery, of Greenville, Miss., Michael Young, of Salem, and Kara Young, of Check. She is also survived by her great- grandchildren, Zachariah Hodges, Malachi Montgomery, Lily Young, Ella Hodges, and Dylan and Tyler Young. Surviving sisters- in-law are Catherine Williams, of Roanoke, Hazel Young, of Christiansburg and Marie Young, of Norfolk; as well as many nieces and nephews. Nanny Opal was always a care-giver, caring for her family and others before herself. She loved her family dearly as well as all animals. She will be greatly missed even though the family knows that she is free of pain and in the loving arms of the Lord. The family is especially thankful to Sherry Reed, Karen King, Kelly Sweeney from Carilion Hospice who did so much to make her last days on this earth easier and more enjoyable and to help the family though this time of life. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Maberry Funeral Home.
