amem_lighthouse.jpgAndrew Jackson Young Jr., 75, of Blacksburg, Va., died Sunday, July 6, 2008. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Young Sr. and Margaret Morgan Young.

He was born on July 18, 1932, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. He spent his early years in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and later Fredericksburg, Va., Richmond, Va., Pittsburgh, Pa., Lancaster, Pa., and Reidsville, N.C., before retiring to Blacksburg, Va., in 1996. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He was employed by Reynolds Metals Company, Fabral and Alumax during his working career.

He was loved by his family and is survived by wife of 53 years, Elaine Waters Young; son, Andrew Jackson Young III, of Virginia Beach, Va.; son, James Price Young and his wife, Marianne Treier Young, of Mount Crawford, Va.; daughter, Sara Morgan Young, of Greensboro, N.C.; daughter, Ellen Lacy Drane and her husband, James Walker Drane, of Greensboro, N.C.; and grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Young, James Price Young Jr., Caroline Lacy Young, Andrew Jackson Beasley, Henderson McDade Beasley, Matthew Neal Drane, Lacy Elizabeth Drane and Grace Parker Drane.

He was a member of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. He loved his Alma Mater and was a staunch supporter of Virginia Tech academics and athletics. He was a Senior Benefactor in the Ut Prosim Society, a Member of the Legacy Society, a Member of the Committee of 100, an Advisory Committee to the College of Engineering, and the Class of 1955 Reunion Committee.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg, Va., with the Reverend Don Makin officiating.
