Yates, Geneva Elizabeth Barnett

Geneva Elizabeth Barnett Yates, 84, of Shawsville, went to be with her Heavenly Father.

She was a retiree of Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford; a long-time member of Mission Mountain Top Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was known as someone who never met a stranger, a feisty little lady who always made you smile with a story or some good advice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Harrison Barnett and Ethel (Aunt Effie) Young Barnett; a brother, Alvie Charlie Theo Barnett and her husband, Garland Paul (Jack) Yates.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin Paul and Ann Yates of Christiansburg, Reginald Lee and Linda Yates of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Y. and Tommy Basham of Shawsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Hazel Barnett of Tazewell and Samuel Kenneth and Mildred Barnett of Salem; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two greatgreat-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Claude Dove officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
