William Jerome Worrell, Sr., age 82 of Hiwassee, died Monday February 20, 2012 at home with his family by his side. He was born on September 2, 1929 in Montgomery County, Virginia, and was the son of the late Delmer Simpkins Worrell and Hobert Shafter Worrell.

He was a member of the Cecil’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired from Burlington Industries in Newbern, after a 42 year career as a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin, Bobby and George. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Lester Worrell, a son, W.J. Worrell, Jr. and his wife Donna of Draper, a brother, Ernest P. Worrell and his wife Gracie of Hiwassee, three sisters, Nellie Whitt of Pulaski, Edna Delap of Pulaski, and Hattie Simpkins of Radford, and a granddaughter, Brittney Lu Worrell of Draper.

A special acknowledgement is extended to all caregivers, especially Good Samaritan Hospice, Ashley Bailey, and April Lavelle, and his brother Ernest, nephew Jackie, sisters, Nellie Whitt and Pauline Hedge.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Seagle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. April Milligan officiating. Interment will follow in Cecil’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
