Samuel Clayton Woolwine, Jr., 74 of Narrows, VA, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Sam was born on July 11, 1947, in Gary, WV and was a son of the late Samuel Clayton Woolwine, Sr. and Lucy Beatrice Mullins Woolwine.

Sam was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1965 – 1969, and served as a Medical Corpsman in Vietnam in 1968/1969. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Indiana University, Southeast. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows. Sam was employed with Rose’s Department Stores, working all over the southeast and retiring in 2009 as the manager at the Princeton, WV store. After retiring, Sam taught himself how to play the guitar, playing at church and at other occasions and he loved appearing as Santa Claus at church functions.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann Adelia Pope Woolwine of Narrows, two sons, Samuel Clayton (Clay) Woolwine, III (Federica) of Winston-Salem, NC, Nathan Edward Woolwine of Narrows, one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Woolwine of Richmond, one sister, Cheryl Woolwine of Narrows, five grandchildren, Samuel Clayton Woolwine, IV, Emily Lucilla Woolwine, Wesley Thomas Woolwine, Hannah Cherise Woolwine and Emma Elizabeth Woolwine all of Winston-Salem, NC.
