Woods, Sr., Teddy Gamaliel

Teddy Gamaliel Woods, Sr, 92 of Pearisburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2020. Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nola Johnson Woods, infant daughter Dehronda Kay Woods, and beloved grandson Matthew Hudson Woods. Teddy was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gladys “Pauline” Medley Woods, with whom he shared his children.

Teddy is survived by son Charles “Chuck” (Sue) Woods and Nancy (Steve) Lusk. Teddy is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Teddy spent 33 years in law enforcement including enlisting in the US Army, working with the Virginia State Police, and eventually retiring from the Radford Arsenal and Ammunition Plant as the chief of security. Teddy considered his biggest accomplishment to be maintaining the integrity of his family’s farm. He spent his entire life committed to farming and instilling a sense of hard work and agricultural knowledge in his children.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the amazing staff at Good Samaritan Hospice. Nurses Wendy and Chris, aide Kayla, and the entire Good Samaritan hospice team from the NRV office displayed an immense sense of professionalism and compassion while providing loving guidance and care for Teddy and the family. The family would also like to thank Ms Betty Stafford for her support, guidance, and assistance throughout Teddy’s final months.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 13, 2020 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 2pm with the Rev. Lee Ellison officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service from 1 – 2. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, Good Samaritan Hospice, and/or The Virginia State Police Association.
