Woods, Mary Ware

Mary Ware Woods, 84, of Newport, went to be with the Lord in her Heavenly home, on Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

She was born in West Virginia on January 18, 1924, to the late Ira and Clesta Cain Ware, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Edward Woods; a daughter, Bonnie Woods Sowers; sisters, Sarah Foreaker and Wilma Hise; and brothers, Edward Ware, Houston Ware, Robert Ware, and Nelson Ware.

Mary was a member of Level Green Christian Church, she was a woman of great faith who loved the Lord and depended on his constant love and assurance. Family meant everything to her and she in turn meant everything to her family. The years had taken a toll on Mary, it robbed her of a daughter, her hearing, and her vision, but the years could never take away her heart. Up until her last breath, she remained a woman of compassion, selflessness and faith with an unending capacity to love.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna W. and Gordon Jones, of Newport; cherished grandsons, Travis E. Jones, of Christiansburg, and Brian D. Jones, of Blacksburg; a special son-in-law, Wayne Sowers, of Christiansburg; and sisters, Avis Cottrill, of Ohio, June Manolidis, of West Virginia, and Kate Collett, of West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, in the Level Green Christian Church with Mike Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Green Christian Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, May 7, 2008, at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg, Va.
