Woods, Carl Spencer

Carl Spencer Woods, 83, of Newport (Happy Hollow Road), went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 3, 2011, from Lewis-Gale Hospital Montgomery.

Carl was a life-long resident of Craig County (born June 11, 1927) and a member of Level Green Christian Church. Carl was proud to be a farmer and always produced a harvest to be envied.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Allie Huffman Woods; brothers, Wesley Woods, Stanley Woods; niece, Bonnie W. Sowers. Carl is survived by his sister, Mary Edith Smith and her husband, Albert, of Newport; nieces, Linda W. Lee (John), Florence W. Huffman (Dennis), and Larken Smith (Joyce); five grandnephews and one grandniece.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, 3 p.m. in Level Green Christian Church with Pastor Mike Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the services.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Level Green Christian Church, 3384 Cumberland Gap Road, Newport, VA 24128.
