Woodruff, W. David
The Rev. W. David Woodruff, 82, of Blacksburg died March 30, 2013. He was born in Wilkes County, N.C. on September 27, 1930. David is survived by his wife, Betsy; sister, Rebecca Cox, of Burlington, N.C.; son, Bob Woodruff (wife Beth), of Leesburg; daughter, Susan Maynard, Moneta; son, Barry Battle (wife Kathryn), Annandale. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Kevin Smith (wife Sarah), Kelly Smith, Kristina Woodruff, Jennifer Woodruff, Brennen Woodruff, Griffin Battle; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Macon Smith. David graduated from UNC-CH with a degree in English and then earned a Masters degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria and a Masters degree from Wake Forest University. He served several churches in North Carolina before coming to Roanoke as rector of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church and then as associate rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal in Salem. A service celebrating David’s life will be held on April 13, 2013, at Christ Episcopal Church, Blacksburg, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to one of the following, Wythe County Humane Society, SPAY/NEUTER FUND, P.
