Wolfe, Katherine Marie Ferguson

Katherine-Marie Ferguson Wolfe of Pulaski Village, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008. She was 96. Daughter of the late Henry J. Ferguson and Elizabeth Martin Ferguson, she was born on February 5, 1912.

She was a member of the Family Worship Center in Pulaski. Following a career in retail work, she retired and later moved to Pulaski Village in 1990 after the death of her husband. She was one of the first residents of the then newly constructed retirement facility on Memorial Drive where she lived for 18 years until her passing.

She enjoyed church activities as well as gardening and bird-watching at her new home but soon found these interests insufficient to occupy her energies. She then turned to volunteer work at Pulaski Community Hospital where she logged more than 4,000 volunteer hours. For this accomplishment, she was recently awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award, an honor established by President George W. Bush in 2002 in recognition of individuals who volunteer more than 4,000 hours in service to their local communities. Wolfe proudly displayed the framed award certificate and art accompanying letter from President Bush in her home.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Stein C. Wolfe and her son, Bobby L. Wolfe, both of Pulaski. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. Wolfe and Joyce C. Wolfe, of Mars Hill, N.C.; and one daughter, Joyce W. Ayers, of Oklahoma City, Okla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tony Wolfe and Mike Wolfe, of Pulaski, Rick Wolfe, of Canton, N.C., Ron Wolfe, of Melbourne, Fla., and Mark Harris, of Bethany, Okla. Surviving as well are great-grandchildren, Josh Wolfe, Mike Wolfe, Zachary Wolfe, Kendra Wolfe Kelly, Diana Wolfe, Nicole Wolfe, Austin Wolfe, Cameron Wolfe, Jared Harris and Jordan Harris. Additionally, she is survived by granddaughters-in-law; one great grandson in law; great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at Stevens Funeral Home with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Randall Cregger will officiate assisted by Dr. C.R. Conner. Interment will be at the Appalachian Conference IPHC Cemetery in Dublin. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
