George Thomas Witten, 64, of Christiansburg, formerly of Dublin, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2007. George was a native of Newport, Va. He was born April 20, 1943 to the late George Clyde and Maurine Gott Witten.

George was an avid outdoorsman with a special love for hunting and fishing. He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (Alliant Tech). George was a member of the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 43 1/2 years, Barbara Epling Witten; his son, George Thomas “Tommy” Witten, Jr. and daughter-in-law Pam Hixon Witten of Radford; daughter, Sheri Annette Witten Light and son-in-law, Charles Edward Light III of Riner. Grandchildren include Justin Scott Witten, Justin Charles Light, and Nicholas Whitman Light. Also surviving are two brothers, Morris W. Witten and his wife Carolyn Joanne of Bland, Virginia and J. Michael Witten and his wife Margaret of Greenville, South Carolina, brothers and sister-in-laws, Eddie and Beulah Epling of Newport, Ermadean and Wayne Caldwell of Christiansburg, Deanita Sarver Verbeck and Brig. Gen. Thomas J. Verbeck of Burke, Virginia; many nieces and nephews; three special kitties; and many wonderful friends past and present.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Newport Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
