James Edward Wirt, 80, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at home. He was a retired 1St SGT of the Army with 33 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Martin L. Wirt and mother, Nanny Lee Walton Wirt; two brothers, Martin L. Wirt, Jr. and Robert Wirt.

He is survived by his wife, Velva Wirt; his aunt, Ruby Walton; his twin sister, Marie Carr, of Cocoa, Florida; his brother and wife, Glenn Ray and Polly Wirt, of Sanford, Florida; sister-in-law, Barbara Taylor, of Wise, VA; sister-in-law, Emma and Wendall Young; sister-in-law, Geraldine Kelley, of Christiansburg, VA; brother-in-law, Cam Cantrell and Nancy, of Dayton, Ohio; brother-in-law, James I. Cantrell, of Riner, VA; he is also survived by, nieces and nephews and cousins, to many to name; his church family at Oak Grove; his neighbors on Betty Drive, Christiansburg, VA; “his top cat Pickles”; special friends, Robert Hodge, Ralph Miller and Robert Ruff.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Alley and Rev Stan Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
