wingo_john_casperJohn Casper Wingo, 79, of Blacksburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at The Crossings. He was born in Union, SC, on Sept. 17, 1936 to the late Willie B. and Etta Harmon Wingo.

John, or “JC,” was a loving husband and a beloved daddy and granddaddy. He was devoted to his family and church. He and Marianne, who was the love of his life, enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. A fierce tennis player and keen sports fan, he especially relished outdoor expeditions with his fishing buddies and nephews. John and Marianne were proprietors of six Western Sizzlin’ restaurants.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Wingo of Blacksburg, Daughter Alison Hesmer of Wilson, NC, Son and Daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dawn Wingo of Purcellville, Va, Grandchildren, Whitney Hesmer of Singapore, Lauren Wingo of Arlington, Va,, John Wingo, of Purcellville, Sister Ruth Anne Anthony of Buffalo, SC, Brother and Sister-in-law, Bill and Jeanelle Wingo of Union, and his precious cat, Sweet William (aka Sweetiecake). John was also a brother-in-law to Ruth Anne’s husband Ernest Anthony, Ruth Chrisman (Chuck), Hazel Bradley (Jim), Betty Richbourg (Jim) and Langston Perry, all deceased, and an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday, June 18 at 1:00 pm in Blacksburg Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy McDearis, Rev. Todd Millsaps and Dr. Don McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:45 – 12:45 Saturday at the church, and there will be a reception in the fellowship hall following the service. Visitors are welcome to join the family at the Memorial Gardens of New River Valley.
