Wimmer, Andy Jack
Andy Jack Wimmer, 88 of Narrows, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at his home. Andy was born on February 25, 1935, in Narrows and was a son of the late Howard Wimmer and Laura Ferguson Wimmer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randy Craig Wimmer, a daughter, Terri W. Forbes, a half-brother, Arnold Mullins and a sister, Patricia Hare and a step-sister, Shirley Burson.
Andy became a family member of the Raines Clan in July 1956. He had just been released from the U.S. Air Force where he had been stationed in Alaska. He and Gracie had been writing to each other after his step-sister Shirley had gotten them remotely introduced. He came home ASAP after the military to meet Gracie. Andy worked in construction, operating heavy equipment until he got a job with Arch Coal Co., where he retired in 1992. Andy loved country living, fishing, hunting, gardening and collecting antique coins. Andy was a joyful person, he loved making people laugh and he had his own unique laugh and could be picked out in a crowd by his laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gracie June Raines Wimmer of Narrows, daughter, Connie Jean Wimmer of Narrows, brother, Bill Wimmer of Narrows, 2 nieces, Sherri Hare, Deirdre Jacobson (Neil) and a nephew, Tony Hare.
Funeral services will be conducted, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 11am at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel in Narrows with Pastor Robert Lang, Dennis Kinnan and Tyler Jayne officiating with burial following in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before the service from 10 – 11am.
