wilson arthur leeArthur Lee Wilson, Jr. (AJ), 78, of Hoges Chapel, Pembroke departed this life Sunday morning, September 29, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke after a lengthy illness. AJ was born on July 8, 1935 in Giles County, a son of the late Arthur Lee, Sr.(Ott) and Pearl Collins Wilson. He was retired from Virginia Tech and had been employed at Foote Mineral Co at Kimballton and at Boxley Quarries at Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Robert and Esther Lafon Robertson, his brothers-in-law Sam Green, Edward Robertson, his sisters-in-law Barbara Phelps and Florida Robertson. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 56 years Mae Robertson Wilson; his son and daughter-in-law Steven and Sharon Wilson of Pembroke; his grandchildren Brittany and Ryan Gilmer, Jacoby Wilson, great-grandchild Chance Gilmer; his sister Patricia W. Green of Pembroke; his brothers-in-law James Robertson of Rustburg, Wayne Phelps (Nancy) of Concord; sister-in-law Peggy Robertson of Salem; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; special grand-puppies Bam Bam and Pebbles. He dearly loves his family, the special times spent on the beach at Nags Head, taking care of his yard and his beloved Christmas decorations that lit up Hoges Chapel. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to talk to his many friends who stopped by and talked with him as he sat on his rock wall waiting for them to come by. His friends at the flea markets will miss his wit and good humor. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the Pembroke Christian Church with Pastor Reggie Britts, Pastor Gary Poff, and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke. Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm. The family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Pembroke Christian Church or Giles High School Athletic Fund.
