Wilson, Gene Frederick

Gene Frederick Wilson, 85, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Hock Family Pavilion, Duke Hospice in Durham, North Carolina. Born and raised in Newport,, Tennessee, son of Ronald and Virgie Wilson, Gene went on to graduate from Austin Peay State University, serve 30 years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Colonel. He completed his “second career” as the Assistant Commandant of Cadets at Virginia Tech, a position that brought him immense joy.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Mary Mann Wilson; his son, Bruce Wilson and wife Cathy, his son, Dennis Wilson and wife Susan; his daughter, Mary Ann Baldwin and husband Bruce; and six grandchildren, Evan Wilson, Hannah Wilson, Madison Wilson, Chandler Wilson, Matthew Baldwin and wife Katie, and Scott Baldwin. Funeral Services will be held at Blacksburg United Methodist Church on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 2 p.m., officiated by the Reverend Reginald Tuck. Graveside rites will follow at Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley. The family will receive friends at McCoy Funeral Home on Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.. The family would request that instead of flowers, memorials in honor of Gene Wilson be made to Blacksburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 931, Blacksburg, VA 24063.
