Williamson Jr., George Sidney

George Sidney Williamson Jr., 89, of Radford, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Carilion New River Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Weeks Williamson. He was a veteran of World War II and was discharged with the rank of Lt. Colonel, and was also a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was the former owner of Williamson Coal and Oil Company and also the Stop Inn Store of Radford.

Surviving are a son, George W. Williamson, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, John T. and Stephanie Williamson, Troutville; three grandchildren, Olivia Williamson, Sidney Williamson, and Seth Williamson, also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the West View Cemetery with the Rev. G.E. Stike and the Rev. John Tibbs officiating. V.F.W. Post #776 will conduct military graveside services . In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to V.F.W. Post #776, Radford. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford is handling arrangements.
