Samuel Junior Williams, 78, of Painter School Road at Pembroke, departed this life Saturday evening, May 9, 2009 in the loving care of his family at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 22, 1930, he was a son of the late Mass Haven and Maggie Sue Carbaugh Williams.

Sam had been employed with National Gypsum-A P Green Lime Co. at Goldbond. He was proud to be a Christian and a member of Riverview Baptist Church. Sam was a life long NRA member and a talented marksman. He and the Rocky Hollow Gang won many ribbons and trophies in silhouette shooting, and he was very proud of their accomplishments. Sam was well known for his love of motorcycles and had traveled to forty-eight states on his BMW.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife “Dee Dee” Osborne Williams, his parents, and his brothers, Richard Haven and Billy Hoge Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory his son and daughter-in-law, Charles Stanley and Debbie Williams, of Pembroke; his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Butch Johnson, of Pearisburg, Belinda and Mike Pauley, of McCoy; his grandchildren, Sara Gautier, Michael Pauley, Todd Evans, Justin Britts, Dawn Williams, John Curtis Pauley, Taylor Britts, Megan Pauley, B J Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Vanessa Gautier, Rawley Martin, Miley Marie Williams; and very special sisters-in-law, Charlotte Fields, Eleanor and Jesse Day, of Tazewell, Va. and brother-in-law, Richard Call, of Glade Spring, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family would like to thank everyone who has assisted and supported them in these final months, including many family friends, Dr. Ojoma and the entire Hospice team.
