Richard Edwin (Eddie) Williams, 65, of Pembroke, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Va. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on November 8, 1943, a son of Margaret Gertrude Snidow Williams, of Pembroke, and the late Martin Luther Williams Jr. In addition to his father, Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Collins; and his brother, Robert “Bobby” Williams. Eddie was a retired employee of Virginia Tech Power Plant where he had worked for 15 years, and was a veteran of the United States Army, Viet Nam Era. Eddie loved to hunt, fish and spend time with family and grandchildren. One of his big things was turkey hunting and being with the “Pembroke Posse.” In addition to his mother, Gertrude; he leaves to cherish his memory his son, Richard Edwin (Rick) Williams Jr. and his wife, Kristie, of Newport; his daughter, Christy Jones and husband, Kevin, of Pembroke; four grandchildren, Makena and Jase Williams, of Newport, and Noah and Sarah Jones, of Pembroke; his brother, Martin L. “Skipper” Williams III and his wife, Paula, of Pembroke; his three nephews and their families, Ken, Mark, and Dwight Collins; and one niece, Marti Williams. A memorial service will be celebrated 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with the Rev. Rob Lough and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. At Eddie’s request, his body was cremated and his ashes will be laid to rest “Up On The Mountain.” In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the local Relay For Life, American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
