Mary Lee Sarver Williams, of Pembroke, Virginia, passed away at her home on June 17, 2020. She was sixty-five years old. Mary Lee, as she was known to many friends and family, was born January 21, 1955 in Montgomery County, Virginia to Marvin and Magdalene Sarver.

Raised in Newport, Virginia she remained a lifelong resident of Giles County. She didn’t care to venture too far from home. Mary characterized herself as a homemaker. She was a doting mother and a talented cook. Always protective of her kitchen secrets, she did not write them down and takes them with her to the hereafter – much to her children’s dismay.

Homemaker, however, was just one of her many roles. Mary managed the family construction business and worked alongside her son on the family cattle farm. Later in life, she oversaw camp operations, including handling many river floods at the New River Park. She held this position for more than 20 years, making many close friends who she looked forward to seeing each season.

A strong woman, Mary was at her best on the farm. She will be remembered for her grit and work ethic, as well as her compassion and selflessness.

Pre-deceased by her parents, Mary is survived by her sister, Barbara Hyatt of Yorktown, Virginia, her son Jessie Williams (Daphne Vangelos Williams) of Pembroke VA, daughter Carrie Williams Dernar (Mike Dernar) of Washington, D.C. Her most prized possessions were her five grandchildren, Kylie Williams, Lakin Price, Mattie Vangelos, Zeke and Max Dernar. She leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and special friends to cherish her memory.

Friends and family are invited to help celebrate her life on Saturday June 20th at the Pembroke United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00pm. A memorial service will follow. Pastor Russ Gresham will officiate.

The family hopes to share a moment and memory with all of you that loved her but please know that social distancing guidelines and safety measures will be required for everyone’s health and safety.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Pembroke United Methodist Church at 5908 Virginia Avenue Pembroke Virginia 24136.
