Williams, Garna Cox Graham

Garna Cox Graham Williams, of Hurt, Va., passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. She was 96 years young, having been born in Indian Valley, Va., on March 6, 1926.

She moved to Gainesville, Fla., in 1953, and retired from Alachua County School Board in Gainesville in 1991 after 37 years of service.

Garna received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Women’s Division of V.P.I., Radford University in Virginia, and received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Florida in 1954.

Garna was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly E. Graham, who was killed in Luderbach, Germany, in 1944, and their son, Roger E. Graham. Also, by her parents, Walter A. Cox and Romania Y. Cox; her brothers, Melvin E. Cox and Arthur J. Cox; her sister, Jessie Skeen; and a niece, Shelby Cox Stringfellow.

Garna is survived by Jim Cox, Susan Cox, Tim Cox, Debra Forgy, Ned Cox, Mike and Jill Cox, Lyndal Yeatts and her husband, Larry, Laura “Robin” Harris and her husband, Frank “Chip;” and God Daughter, Shannon Gibson and their families. Also survived by a special family friend, Henry L. Moon; and Garna’s girls, Sherri Staton, Patricia Keatts, Florence Ayers, Paige Lacy, thank you for all you do.

A graveside service will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Sunrise Burial Park, 7228 Round House St., Fairlawn, VA 24141.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to the Radford Animal Shelter, 110 Pulaski St., Radford, VA 24141.
