Williams, Charles Edward

Charles E. Williams, 69, of Annapolis, Md., died of Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) on November 22, 2010, in transit from his home to Hospice of the Chesapeake. Mr. Williams was born on December 30, 1940, in Pulaski, Va., to the late Elmer Kyle and Louise McNew Williams. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School and earned a B.S. in Building Construction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Va. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He served in the 69th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam. Prior to forming his own building company, Wedgewood Homes, he worked for Daniels Construction Company in South Carolina, Kettler Brothers, Montgomery County, Md., and Interstate General Corporation, St. Charles, Md. He is survived by a brother, E.K. Williams Jr., of Round Hill, Va.; a sister, Frances Walker, of Richmond, Va.; an aunt, Charlene Mattingly, of Indian Head, Md.; and six nieces and nephews. His marriage to J. Linda Williams, of Crofton, Md., ended in divorce; however they remained caring friends throughout his life. A Memorial service in celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010, at Severn Covenant Church, 20 Gambrills Road, Severn, Md., 410-987-3021. His body was donated to Johns Hopkins for research, after which he will be cremated. His ashes will be handled as he wished.
