Wilburn, Walker Easley

Walker Easley Wilburn, 81, completed the race of life on June 13, 2007 at his home in Kimballton, Va. He finished well!

Walker was born June 17, 1925 in Wilburn Valley. His father, William Andrew Wilburn, died on October 30, 1925 and his grandmother Sarah Victoria Link, began to mold and shape him and his brother Dan, with all the love a grandmother could possibly give her grandchildren until her death April 15, 1950.

After graduating from Pembroke High School in 1943 Walker joined the U.S. Navy in November and served in combat, as a gunner, in the Pacific and was discharged as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in November 1946. Walker married Norweta Caldwell in May 1949 and had a “love story” marriage for fifty eight years.

He retired from Virginian Limestone Corporation after thirty three years where he was a heavy equipment operator. He used this and his many other skills to clear the land, and, along with the church family, help build Riverview Baptist Church, in Ripplemead, Va. where he was a faithful member.

Walker is survived by his wife Norweta; a son, Shahn and his wife, Juanita; his beloved brother, Dan, of Abington; many special friends, especially Jubal Powell and Rabbit Martin who are left with many fond memories of Walker.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Riverview Baptist Church with the service to follow at 8 p.m. Pastor John Altizer and Pastor Shahn Wilburn will officiate. There will also be time for friends to share their favorite memories about Walker.

Special thanks to our church family at Riverview Baptist, Dr. Melton and Hospice, we love and appreciate you very much. In lieu of flowers, at Walker’s request, please consider sending a donation to our current mission project; “Project India” c/o Riverview Baptist Church, P.O. Box 206, Ripplemead, VA 24150.
