Wilburn, Roy Wilson
Roy Wilson Wilburn, 95 of Ripplemead, VA departed this life on March 6, 2022 in the care of Carilion Giles Community Hospital. Born on August 31, 1926 in Ripplemead, VA, Roy lived and worked his entire life in Ripplemead and Giles County Virginia, he was a son of the late Victor and Lena Bowles Wilburn.
Roy served the United States of America proudly as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy during World War II. He would later serve Celanese honorably for 42 years in production. Roy was a former member of Edgewood Methodist Church and held his Christian beliefs throughout his life. He was a caring and compassionate man who served and supported his family. He enjoyed planning weekend trips for his family to see and experience new things as well as planting and caring for a large vegetable garden each year.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Mullins Wilburn; daughter-in-law, Gina Wilburn; a brother, Charles Wilburn; and sisters, Helen Gautier, and Mary Williams.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gary Wilburn of Roanoke, and Randall Wilburn of Ripplemead, VA; grandchildren, Grant Wilburn (Katherine), and Grace Elliott (Randall); and great-grandchildren, Willow Elliott, and Hazel Elliott.
The family would like to thank the nurses and physicians of Carilion Giles Community Hospital for all of the kindness and support provided to Roy while under their care.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Services will conclude at Birchlawn Burial Park. Family will receive friends at Kendall Funeral Home on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
