Wilburn, Betty Steele

Betty Lou Wilburn, 66, of Narrows, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at her home. She was born in Logan County, W.Va., on May 7, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Cleophus Gaston Steele and Bertha Mae Doss Steele. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Edward (Pete) Wilburn; and a brother, Cleophus Gaston Steele Jr. (Uncle Cracker). Betty was a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows with over 20 years service. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Left to cherish her memory are two sons and their wives, Troy Lee Wilburn and wife, Terri, of Dublin, and Dewayne Edward Wilburn and wife, Melinda (Mitzi), of Blacksburg; a daughter, Deborah Lynn Wilburn, of Narrows; three grandchildren, Michelle Dawn Wilburn, of Blacksburg, Craig Edward Wilburn, of Narrows, and Jennifer Nichole Webb, of Newark, Ohio; a greatgrandson, Memphis Chase Wilburn, of Blacksburg; four sisters, Beverly Sapp and husband, Jimmy, of Sophia, W.Va., Linda Spangler, of Pembroke, Carol Morris, of Pearisburg, and Sherry Christian, of Christiansburg; a brother, Johnny Steele, of Salem; a very loving and special companion, Bandit; and numerous special nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2011, in the chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Jon D. Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service on Saturday, June 18, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider either the Giles County Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society , or to Good Samaritan Hospice.
