Whitteker, Kenton Rubert

Kenton Rubert Whitteker, 58, of Christiansburg, Va., and formerly of Durhing, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his residence.

Kenny was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Born on April 6, 1949, in Bluefield, he was a son of the late Ralph E. and Lillian Byrd Whittaker. Kenny was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp. He was an employee of Norfolk & Southern Railway for 26 years and was a member of the Midway Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Rodney A. Whitteker, Donald R. Whitteker and Randall R. Whittaker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Pamela Webb Whitteker, of the home; Michael Scott Whitteker and wife, Trina, of Blacksburg, Va., Timothy Brian Whitteker, of Christiansburg, Va., and Benjamin Lee Whitteker and wife, Angel, of Pembroke, Va.; grandchildren, Brendon, Kayleigh and Abigail Whitteker of Christiansburg, Va., and Beau and Celeste Whitteker, of Pembroke; one sister, Tammy O’Donnell and husband, Larry, of Durhing; sisters-in-law, Beverly Whittaker of Durhing, and Deborah Whitteker, of Roanoke, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Ministers Dan Webb and Larry Veach (brothers-in-law) officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 6, 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Carilion Hospice of New River Valley, 707 Randolph St., Suite 251, Radford, Va. 24141-2429. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Whitteker family.
