Whittaker, Dessie Frances

Dessie Frances Whittaker, 100, of Pearisburg, departed this life in the care of Heritage Hall Rich Creek, Tuesday evening March 25, 2014. Born in Bluff City in Giles County on October 15, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Carthy Smith Hollins.

A beloved homemaker and caregiver to her family, she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe Lee Whittaker, her son Melvin E. Whittaker, Sr., her daughters Christine Whittaker and Virginia Cruise, and her grandchildren Robin Cruise, Myron Cruise, and Michael Whittaker.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law Melvin E. Whittaker, Jr.and Carmen Blankenship Whittaker of Pearisburg; her grandchildren Amber, Ashley, and Brandon; and her five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bane. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
