Whitt, E. Merle

E. Merle Whitt, 84, of Cheraw, S.C., died Thursday, January 27, 2011. Born in Radford, Va., he was a son of the late George Clinton and Lucy Reed Whitt. He was retired from Galey and Lord (Textile Printing) in Society Hill, S.C. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, S.C., where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School (Berean Class) Teacher, Baptist Men Leader, and Trustee. He was a World War II veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Surviving are his wife, Merle Ward Whitt, of Cheraw, S.C., sons, Edward H. (Sarah) Whitt, of Spartanburg, S.C., Richard C. (Nancee) Whitt, of Rossville, Ga.; grandsons, Alex and Zach Whitt; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Archie E. Whitt, Garnett Whitt, Alfred Whitt, Marshall Whitt, Carter Whitt; sisters, Hazel Summers, Nancy Whitt, Sadie Brinkley and Louise Wright. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, S.C. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, S.C. Burial with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011, in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. Please consider memorials to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O.
