Whitsett, Glenn Bonstead (Willie)

Glenn Bonstead (Willie) Whitsett, 77, of Altamonte Springs, Fla., died on November 7, 2010, with his beloved wife of 27 years, Louise, at his side. Glenn was born in Blacksburg, Va., and stayed true to his Virginia roots throughout his life, expressed through his great love and support of Virginia Tech football. He served proudly in the United States Air Force and was a decorated Viet Nam Veteran. Glenn was a life member of VFW Post 5405 and also a member of the Casselberry Vets. He was a Past Director of the Parks & Recreation Department for the City of Winter Springs. Sports was one of his passions and he enjoyed playing golf as well as watching football and rooting for his adopted home town team, the Orlando Magic. One of his greatest professional accomplishments was being inducted into the Rhein-Main, Germany (Air Force Base) Rockets Hall of Fame in 1973 in recognition of his overseas service as Head Coach of their European National Football Championship. In addition to his wife, Glenn is survived by four beloved children, Bill, Glenn, and Linda (White) Whitsett, all of Virginia; and stepson, Craig Carter, of Winter Park, Fla.; as well as 12 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by stepsons, Kenny Carter and John Brosnan. “If it is true that in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make, then surely Glenn left this earth surrounded by the spirit of love.” A Graveside Service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.
