Whitmer, Joyce Kidd

Joyce Kidd Whitmer, 78, of Radford, Va., passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a retired teacher. She received her BA and Masters Degrees from Radford College. Survivors include a husband of 55 years, Glenn Robert Whitmer; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory L. and Paula F. Whitmer, of Charlottesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen W. and Thomas G. Shufflebarger, of Hoover, Ala..; three grandchildren, Davis Whitmer and Erin and Meg Shufflebarger; three sisters, June Wheeler, of Atkins, Jean Delp, of Rural Retreat, and Jackie King, of Wytheville; and a brother, Frank Akers, of Hillsborough, Calif. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Radford with Father Jim Grealish officiating. Interment will follow at approximately 1:15 p.m. in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
