whitlow_george_wGeorge W. (Bill) Whitlow, 71, of Christiansburg, formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011. He was born June 1, 1940 in Matoka, W.Va. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Yosemite and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He is survived by his five children: two daughters, Sherry Hollandsworth and husband Andrew, of Christiansburg, and Lesa Faller and husband Michael, of New York; three sons, Randy Whitlow and wife Holley of Christiansburg, Kevin Whitlow, of Christiansburg, and George Pritcherd, of Christiansburg; nine grandchildren, Joy Whitlow, Amber Whitlow, Samantha Whitlow, Matt Whitlow, Keisha Whitlow, Jesse Whitlow, Christian Whitlow, Andrew D. Hollandsworth and Cameron Hollandsworth; two great-grandchildren, Edan Cupp and Brandley Elliott; one sister, Shelia Shreve of Roanoke; and one brother, Roger Whitlow, of Christiansburg; special friends Jimmy Miller, Todd Shouse, and Roger Cox; best friend, Shadow, his dog. A memorial service will be held at New Hope Church of God on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. T. Michael Bond and Rev. Tony Vaughn. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Hospice (Carilion Clinic), Veterans Hospital of Salem, SPCA, or American Cancer Society .
