Whitlock Jr., Elinos Alton

Elinos Alton Whitlock, Jr., 72, retired minister, died Monday, Feb.11, in Fayetteville, NC. Son of the late Elinos Alton Whitlock and Estella Jackson Yeatts Whitlock, he grew up in Floyd County.

He attended Check High School; King College, Bristol, TN; Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA; and McCormick Seminary, Chicago, IL. He served as minister of seven Presbyterian churches in North Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Lois Ward Whitlock, of Fayetteville, NC; son Elinos Alton Whitlock, III, of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Martha Lois Whitlock Reed, of Greer, SC; daughter, Elizabeth Lois Whitlock Badgett, of Fayetteville, NC; son, David Ward Whitlock, of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren – Logan Thomas Whitlock, Daniel Jackson Whitlock, and Andrew Kent Whitlock of Charlotte, NC; Elizabeth Teressa Reed and Benton Louis Reed of Greer, SC; Robert Whitlock Badgett of Fayetteville, NC; Michelle Sarah Whitlock of Raleigh, NC; two step-grandchildren, Carie Jean Badgett of Chicago, IL, and George Edwin Badgett, III, of Brevard, NC; four brothers – Donnie Dale Whitlock of Check, VA; Clyde Marlyn Whitlock of Nashville, TN; Perry Lee Whitlock of Floyd, VA; Joe David Whitlock, Floyd, VA; and two sisters Almeda JacksonWhitlock Conner, of Copper Hill, VA, and Rebekah Leah Whitlock Kinsley of Floyd, VA. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Lincoln Whitlock, Floyd, VA; Lewis Arthur Whitlock, Floyd, VA; and one sister Ollie Martha Whitlock, Floyd, VA.

Service will be held 2:00 Sunday, February 17, at Floyd Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend David Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Floyd Presbyterian Church, Floyd, Virginia.
