Whitlock, Dennis R.

Dennis R. Whitlock, 101, of Shawsville, Va., passed away Monday, September 29, 2008. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn W. Sisson and her husband, Julius; and a daughter-in-law, Janet W. Whitlock.

He is survived by his wife of 79 years, Blake Hall Whitlock; a son, D. Roger Whitlock, of Woodbury, Tenn.; two daughters, Mary Alice and husband, Leonard Firebaugh, of Roanoke, and Nellie Jo and husband, Fred St.Clair, of Morristown, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and three greatgreat-grandchildren.

Dennis was a skilled wood craftsman and his furniture pieces grace homes throughout several states. He was a member of Crockett Springs United Methodist Church.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Richfield Retirement Community Center for their care and compassion shown.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008, in the Horne Funeral Chapel in Christiansburg with the Rev. Emory Tarpley and the Rev. Terry Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery.
