Whitaker, Dan Carson

Dan “Carson” Whitaker, 80, of Christiansburg passed away June 19, 2015. Carson was a kind gentle man with a smile always on his face and loved by all. After retiring from the Radford Arsenal, he spent his days working in the yard and feeding birds with his cats for company.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Papa Carson will be greatly missed by all. You will always be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney & Elizabeth Whitaker; brothers, Carmen & Clifford Whitaker; son, Michael Conner.

Carson is survived by his wife, Carolyn Whitaker; sons, Dan C., Jr.& Lylah Whitaker; James & Trish Whitaker ; Joseph & Etta Whitaker & Jerry Whitaker; daughter, Donna & Bill Biggs; step son, Phillip Conner; step daughters, Billie & Tony Linkous ; Phyllis & Timmy Kingery; Melanie Collins; 20 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Cecil & Charlie Whitaker; sister, Barbara McMahan.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Tuesday June 23 at 11 am at Harbor of Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Richard Kingrea officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Michael is no longer alone in heaven. He now has Papa Carson with him. Surely they are reminiscing on the past and present. Nannie and her kids now have two angels watching over them.
