Wells, Hursel Robert

Hursel Robert Wells, 72 of Elliston, Virginia, known to many as “Bob,” “Bobby,” “Baby Brother,” “Uncle Bobby,” “Daddy,” and “Poppy,” went to play golf with the angels in heaven on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Edward Henry Wells; his mother, Virgie Cheatwood Wells; brothers, James Duvall Wells, Charles William Wells, Erskine Reginald Wells, and Henry David Wells; and sisters, Nellie Pauline Wells Roberts, Minnie Marie Wells Caldwell, Dorothy Mae Wells Oliver, Mary Ellen Wells Crawford, and Eleanor Crystal Wells Young.

Left with all the wonderful memories of their 54 years together is his loving wife, Betty Lou Maxey Wells. He is also survived by his sister, Edna Jean Wells Worrell; daughters, Tina Louise Wells and Kimberly Denise Wells; honorary son, Coy King; grandchildren, Joshua Gunnar Dean, Alisa Spring Gross, and Robert Blake Thwaites; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Scott Dowdy, Jazmyne Rose Spring Dowdy, and Grayson Matthew Dowdy.

He touched the lives of many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and numerous community members. Bobby loved his family and he loved helping others. He truly left his mark on the community and everyone he met and enjoyed winning quarters on the golf course almost every weekend. There is no one who was more kind and loving than Bobby; he was truly one of a kind and will forever be our hero. We are your legacy and we will work our hardest to keep true to your memory.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 5 to 7 pm at Horne Funeral Home. Procession will leave Horne Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 18, 2021 to conclude at Piedmont Cemetery for the graveside service. Pastor Eddie Booth will be officiating.
