James Dawson Weikel, 77, of Radford, Va., passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Covington, Va. on August 6, 1930, the son of the late Oswald L. and Nancy S. Weikel. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Ira Lee; and his sister, Nancy. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He attended VPI and graduated from New River Technical School. He served as a Virginia State Trooper. He retired with 34 years of service from Hercules, Inc. in 1992.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Star Perkins Weikel; son, Mark D. of Pembroke, son, Timothy C. and wife, Donna, of Christiansburg, Va., son Erich K. and wife, Sharon, of Germanton, N.C.; grandchildren, Carly A. Weikel, J. Andrew Weikel, Katy M. Weikel and Owen C. Weikel; brother, John E. Weikel Sr. and Shirley Mabry; sister, Mary Lou Martin and husband, Donald, of Pittsburg, Pa.; sister-in-law, Dawn Y. Weikel of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother-in-law, Sam Y. Perkins and wife, Ivis, of Bristol; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Raymond Harron, Dr. Uzair Wyne, Dr. Thad Lee, Dr. Christopher Sherer and the wonderful staff of doctors and nurses at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Brian Cockram officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. Pallbearers will be Thomas A. Weikel, Kenneth F. Weikel, Raymond Williams, James Williams and Steven Martin.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, October 17, 2007 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
