Wayne, Alvin Lee

Alvin Lee Wayne, 72, of Dublin passed away on August 15, 2012 after a long illness. He was born on August 22, 1939 in Marion VA, a son of the late Raymond Lee and Lottie Wayne. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edith Thompson Wayne, and three daughters, Tamala Wayne and husband Chris Sauer of Brooklyn, New York; Joy Wayne of Bedford, Va; and Christi Wayne and husband Charlie Whitescarver of Christiansburg, VA. A 1956 graduate of Dublin High School, Alvin went on to graduate from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN in 1960. He then joined the Air Force in 1961, where he served for 4 years. He began working at White Motor Trucking in 1976 and retired from Volvo Heavy Truck Corporation after 28 years in 2004. Alvin also established a career working as a radio announcer for many years in the New River Valley. He was on the airways at area radio stations WBLB, WRAD, WPSK and WPUV. One of his great loves was country music, although he had an appreciation for all genres. Alvin was an avid reader, known for always having a book, and he stressed the importance of reading to his three daughters. He was known for loving a good debate and valued education and research on any subject. He was an active member of the Dublin United Methodist Church. He enjoyed teaching the “Christians Under Construction” Sunday School class and loved his fellow church members and church community. He loved gardening, always experimenting with growing new things, whether it be fruit trees or flowers, and never missed a Saturday yard sale. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be at Dublin United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, they may make memorial contributions in his memory to the Dublin United Methodist Church P.O.
