Brian Edgar Warren, 62, loving husband and father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, in Blacksburg, Va. He was born to Everett and Nellie Warren in Clifton Forge, Va., on May 8, 1946. He married Joanne Warren on August 17, 1968, in Richmond, Va.

He graduated from Francis Hammond High School in 1964 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Randolph Macon College, a master’s in psychology from the University of Florida, and a doctorate in Counseling and Clinical Psychology, also from the University of Florida. Brian came to Virginia Tech in 1972 to join University Counseling Services as a staff clinical psychologist. He became assistant director in 1975, director in 1993, and director of both the Cook Counseling Center and Schiffert Health Center in 1994. In 2003 he was named Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, and in 2006 retired with 34 years of devoted service.

Brian is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joanne, of Blacksburg; son, Nathan and wife, Meredith, of Hailey, Idaho; and son, Zachary and wife, Jenny, of Nashville. He is further survived by brother, Everett and wife, Eileen; brother, Gary and wife, Pat; nephew, Todd; niece, Kelly and husband, Mike; brother-in-law, Jim and wife, Virginia Turner; niece, Kathy and husband, Todd; niece, Annie; nephew, Jim and wife, Rosanne; and one grandchild, Josh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Nellie.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Tyndall officiating. The family requests memorials to be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Evans Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24073, in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, November 19, 2008, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg, Va.
