Ward, Gary Wayne
The world has lost a sweet, kind, courageous, soul; the guy with beautiful eyes and an infectious smile. Gary Wayne Ward, of Salem, VA, departed this world Monday May 15, 2017 at the young age of 34. Gary graduated from Salem High in 2001 and has been a fantastic cook for Mac and Bob’s for the past 11 years.
Gary is survived by his mother, Wendy Saunders; father, Charley Ward; his twin sister, Angela and husband Mark Arthur, nieces, Jodi and Tori Huffman; uncles, David and wife Darlene Lovern, Ronnie and wife Mary Lovern, Carl and wife Crystal Lovern, and Flint Ward; and aunts Darla Lovern and her life partner Val Nakdimen as well as aunt Betty Gregg. In addition numerous step-aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to name as well as best lifetime friends, Matt and wife Gina Hunt as well as a lifetime of special friends. He had an unsurpassed love of the great outdoors and the fabulous gift making others laugh. His final and most generous gift was that of organ donation.
The visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow the visitation at Alleghany Spring Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery, Shawsville. Rest in peace you wonderful man. Gary, you were like a son to me and such a good friend to Matthew and Gina. God must have had a very special need to take you so young, and I know that heaven is a little brighter with you there. My thoughts and prayers are with all of your dear family and friends. You will always have a special place in my heart.

My buddy. My man. Who is going to keep this world happy with you gone? I don’t have one single memory of us together when we weren’t making each other laugh. A man could never hope for a better friend than you and there just aren’t words to say how I’m going to miss our time together. I wish I could hear you say “Hey Hunt!” Just one more time. Or imitate Karl Childers from the movie Slingblade. I wish we could toss a football one more time and spend one more night playing video games and just laughing like crazy at each other. You’re the friend I can tell anything to and spend all night telling each other stories we both lived but still love to talk about time and again. You never failed to charm with your animated personality and infectious kindness. I can count on you for anything. We laughed, loved, made memories and made mistakes together. We learned how to be men and learned life’s tough lessons together. You’re the childhood friend I’ll never forget and never stop missing. You’re a son to my mom, a best friend to my wife, an uncle to my daughter and a brother to me. More than a close friend you are my family and I am proud to know you feel the same about me. We said it all the time, but I love you buddy.
