Bonnie Shaffer Ward, 73, of 4958 Lee Highway Dublin, passed away Friday morning September 1, 2006 at the Pulaski Community Hospital.

Born March 9, 1933 in Pulaski County she was the daughter of the late Aubrey Shaffer and Louise Smith Morris. One uncle, Walter Shumate, also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Dublin Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Charles W. Ward of Dublin; sons, Billy and his wife, Sally Ward of Woodstock, Ga., and Mark and his wife, Ethel Ward of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, William, Sarah, Emily, Landon, and Rachel; brothers, Jimmy and his wife, Frances Morris of Powhatan, Va., and Bobby and his wife, Maria Morris of Chester, Va.; sister, Sue Ellen and her husband, Tommy Rideout of Fla.; brother-in-law, Harold and his wife, Joey Ward of Dublin, Va.; sister-in-law, Merle and her husband, Merle Whitt of Cheraw, S.C.; nephews, Hal and Scott Ward of Botetourt, Va., Rick Whitt of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Eddie Whitt of Spartanburg, S.C.; special cousins, Emogene Cullip of Dublin, Va., and Ronnie and Ann Shumate of Chesterfield, Va.; special aunt, Rita Shumate of Chesterfield, Va.; and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at the Dublin Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Shartzer officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Bonnie’s memory be made to the Dublin Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the American Diabetes Assoc., 530 E. Main Street, Suite #200, Richmond, VA 23219. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.
