Francis Carey Walthall, 87, of Pulaski, Va., and formerly of Alexandria, Va., died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the University of Virginia Hospital.

Born on January 3, 1921, in Bogalusa, La., he was the son of the late Benjamin C. Walthall and Juanita Rodriguez Walthall. Also predeceasing him are his wife of 34 years, Mildred Louise Walthall, and a son, Donald Walthall. Mr. Walthall served in the United States Navy in World War II. His working years were spent as an accountant for the U.S. Navy Department of the U.S. Government. After retirement, he traveled extensively.

Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Murphy, of Fort Washington, Md., Linda McCleary, of Alexandria, Va., Juanita Simmerman, of Galax, Va., Reby Hopler, of Fairfax Station, Va., and Sharon Ortiz, of Earlysville, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held on Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Saint Thomas Aquinas in Charlottesville, Va., with Father Brian Mulcahy as officiant. Interment with Military Honors was held on Friday, June 13, 2008, in the National Memorial Park Cemetery in Falls Church, Va., with Father Tewes as officiant.
