Stella Dalton Wallner, 78, of Hickory, North Carolina, formerly of Pulaski, died Friday afternoon in Brian Center of Hickory. She was born May 27, 1929 in Pulaski and was the daughter of the late Ethel Martin Dalton and Ernest Dalton.

She grew up in Pulaski and graduated from Westhamp ton College of the University of Richmond in 1950. On June 27, 1950 she married Siegfried “Jon” Wallner, Jr. in Pulaski at Christ Episcopal Church. Stella and her husband Jon, lived in numerous places, developing long-term friendships during their lives: Pulaski, Va., Columbus, Ohio, Chattanooga, Tenn., Signal Mountain, Tenn., Clinton, Tenn., Paducah, Ky., Burlington, N.C., High Point, N.C., Winston-Salem, N.C. and Hickory, N.C. Stella’s fondest memories were of her years in Pulaski and at Westhampton College.

She is survived by her husband, Siegfried “Jon” Wallner of Hickory; one son, Jon T. Wallner and his wife, Kate, of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Marcia Dee Pencola and her husband, Michael, of Hickory, and Celeste Sabel Haynie and her husband, Tom, of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Chime “Kalima” Dalton Tate of Pulaski; a brother, Cosne N. Dalton and his wife, Kate, of Pulaski. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Marcia Helene Sabel, Samuel Sabel and his wife, Heather, Joshua Pencola, Chelsea Dee Pencola Gelardi and her husband, Anthony, Carley Sarah Pencola, Katharine Adams Wallner and Elizabeth Dalton Wallner; and one newborn great-grandson, Sebastain Judah Sabel-Sowers. Also surviving Stella is her special maltese companion, Sophie Mae, who brought her great happiness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday December 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. funeral time at the funeral home.
