Betty Mae Dowdy Waldrop, 93, of Alexandria, Va., died on 9 May 2022, at Sunrise at Mount Vernon, Assisted Living Community, in Alexandria, Va.

She was born in Blacksburg, Va., on September 23, 1928, to the late James Kent and Lena Sowers Dowdy, and is also preceded by her husband, Thomas Waldrop, her son, Ronald Waldrop; her sisters, Faye Smith, Annie Bradberry, Mollissa Hall, Weeda Bradberry, and Shelby Jean Dowdy; her brothers Billy Dowdy and Russell Dowdy.

She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Dowdy, of Christiansburg, Va.; her daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Gary Carpenter, of Alexandria, Va., Terri and Chip Hicks, of Palatka, Fl., and daughter, Patti Jerman, of Burke, Va.; six Grandchildren, Tommy Carpenter, Tracy Carpenter, Melissa Hicks, Leigha Davis Hicks, Courtney Jerman and Kasey Jerman; seven great-grandchildren, Fischer, Isabella, Maelynne, Tristan, Adaline, William, Logan and Ashton; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, doctors and nurses at Sunrise at Mount Vernon for all their love and care given to Betty during her stay at their community. The family would also like to thank the many relatives and friends that sent Betty cards, letters, and care packages during her stay at Sunrise.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home, McCoy, Va., on Friday, 13 May 2022. Interment services will be held graveside at 12PM., on Friday, 13 May 2022, at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, VA; Pastor Shake Smith officiating.
