Melva Mae Smith Wade, 77, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at her home. Born on May 22, 1932, in Pulaski, she was the daughter of the late William Thurman Smith Sr. and Lelia Bain Smith. Her husband, Riner Burtis Wade Sr., three sisters, and two brothers, also preceded her in death.

She was a retired dietary supervisor at the Pulaski Community Hospital with 22 years of service. She was a member of the Max Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving children include, Riner Burtis Wade Jr. and wife, Patsy, of Pulaski, Patsy Blevins and husband, Richard, of Pulaski, Linda Gail Lawson, of Snowville, Donna D. Hall, of Pulaski, Kathy Hight, of Dublin, and Phillip D. and Lisa R. Wade, of Pulaski; 14 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; sister , Daphna Edwards, of Delton; brothers, Neville Smith, of Pulaski, and Bobby Smith, of Mississippi; and very special pet, Muffin Baby.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010, at the Max Creek Baptist Church, Pulaski with Pastor Mike Coleman and Ersel Alderman officiating. Interment will follow at the Hufford Cemetery (Mt. Olivet Road). The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church.
