Vickers, Mary Angelelli

Mary Angelelli Vickers, 90, formerly of Water Front Estates at Claytor Lake, Draper, departed this life Wednesday, January 25, 2012. A devoted wife and mother, she was born December 29, 1921, in Cherokee, W.Va., the first child of Italian immigrants, the late Angelo Angelelli and the late Teresa Lupi Angelelli. She was Salutatorian of the Northfork High School graduating class of 1940. She traveled extensively with her family and husband, the late Frank Vickers, during his 30 year Army career. They settled in Bluefield, to be close to family. As an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, W.Va., Mrs. Vickers served on St. Ann’s Altar Guild, as a Eucharistic Minister, and as President of DCCW. She was also a member and President of Bluefield, Virginia Women’s Club. In their retirement, the couple resettled at Claytor Lake for more than a decade, and Mrs. Vickers relocated to Richmond after her husband’s death in 1999. She was preceded in death, also, by her grandson, Jason Rooker; and brothers, Pete Angelelli and Fernando Angelelli. Survivors include a sister, Linda Angelelli, of Bluefield, W.Va.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Fran and Greg Rooker, of Claytor Lake, Valerie and Randy Hostetler, of Glen Allen, and Shirley and Steve Conley, of Midlothian; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that gifts be made to The Jason Foundation (to help people with brain injuries and their families) at PO Box 430, Radford, VA 24143 and /or the American Diabetes Association at PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, in honor of her grandson, Chris Conley. Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, W.Va., will host the viewing from 5pm-7pm on Friday, January 27, with Catholic Wake Service at 7pm. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28, at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, W.Va.
