Jack Earles Via, 80, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, December 11, 2006 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Via was a Veteran having served in World War II; Virginia Tech Alumni; he served on the Town of Christiansburg Planning Commission for 35 years and Christiansburg Town Council for 24 years, beginning his service with the original council. He was dedicated to the community and at the same time he was a loving and great father; and a friend to many who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward and Burgia Via; a son, Mark Via; and a sister, Jewel V. Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, George Edward Via, Jr. of Chester, Va., David Lee Via of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters, Hope V. Shrewsbury of Roanoke, Joy V. Foster of Christiansburg; former wife and friend, Joyce M. Via, Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons and daughter-in-law, James R. Via of Christiansburg, John E. and Barbara Via of Christiansburg; grandsons, William A. Via and Jack A. Via.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. A memorial funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neal Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post #1184. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216 or the American Diabetes Association, P. O.
