Vest, Ruby Alice Compton
Ruby Alice Compton Vest, of Floyd, passed from this world to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the age of 87. Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Harless Vest; her brother, Bruce Compton; her sister, Hazel Howery; and her parents, Nellie and Ward Compton.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Wanda Radford; her precious granddaughter, Amy Phillips; and her precious great-granddaughter, Taylor Phillips all of Floyd. Also, her half sisters, Louise Via (Theodore), of Floyd; Lucy McAlexander (Charlie), of Pfafftown, N.C.; and stepsister, Patsy Cockram (Welby), of Floyd. Ruby was also blessed to have four sisters-in-law, Claudine Haynes (Don); Lorine Huff (David); Ina Wood (Herbert); and Christine Vest. Her family was always there for her after her husband’s death, and she loved them with all her heart. In addition, she had many nieces and nephews who were a blessing to her life. Ruby also leaves behind many good friends throughout the community who she loved. She was a hard worker but was always willing to do for others.
Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Jacksonville Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Womack officiating. The Floyd Baptist Church will provide a meal for the family after the graveside service.
