Donnie Jack Vest, 68, of Copper Hill passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017. He served his country proudly in the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong member of the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854, American Legion Post 127 and J. M. Wainwright D. A. V. Chapter 29. Donnie “Jack” worked for Norfolk Southern for 34 years but his real passion and way of life was being and working on the family farm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Namon and Beulah Vest; mother-in-law, Bobbie Meador; brother-in-law, Wayne Brown.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol M. Vest; sister, Charlotte Vest Brown; sister-in-law, Alice Phillips and her husband, Freddy; nephew, who was like a son, Mike Phillips and wife, Abby; nieces, who were like daughters, Becky Hodge and her husband, Rocky, Amy Lamb and her husband, Adam, Kayla Tyler and her husband, Chris; twelve special “grandchildren”, Christene, Sarah, Mary, Alana, Chloe, Cody, Luke, Ashton, Allie, Sam, Kaylyn, Charleigh; “adopted” son, Lauren Yoder and his wife, Chelsa; special cat, Molly; his military family, Railroad family and many other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Oakey’s South Chapel with Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Vale Cemetery, Copper Hill with military honors by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post 127. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2 until 5 p.m. at Oakey’s South Chapel. In lieu of flowers may be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad or the Floyd County Fire Department.
