On Sunday morning, May 13, 2007, Clay Vest peacefully passed away at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, Illinois in the presence of his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Aberdeen Vest. Survivors include his loving wife, Ellen Bennett Vest; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Chris Brevard; father, Horace Vest; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Maurice Quesenberry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Gennell Vest, Doug and Angie Vest; mother-in-law, Thelma Lucas; father-in-law, William Bennett; aunts and uncles, Marshall and Judy McNeil, Alfred McNeil, Buddy and Vivian Dickerson, Allene Sweeney, Audrey Lee, Allie Vest, Bertha Sassaman; nephews, Marc Quesenberry, Matthew Vest, Mitchell Nolen; nieces, Megan Quesenberry, Michelle Quesenberry, Charity Nolen, Hannah Vest; two life long friends, Wayne Goff, Rene Wimmer.

Clay loved the Lord and his church family at Floyd Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a loving husband, father and friend. He enjoyed reading the Bible. He loved farming and the outdoors, with a passion for tractors and equipment.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Floyd Baptist Church with Dr. Dave Holladay, Pastor Dan Walker and the Rev. Dan Agee officiating. Interment will follow at Samuel L. Vest Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at Gardner Funeral Home, where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Clay requested that donations be made to Floyd Baptist Church, PO Box 58, Floyd, Va. 24091, or to the Medical Charities of Floyd County for cancer patients and their families, 100 E. Main St. Room 108, Floyd, Va. 24091. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
