Vaughn, Verena Lou Blankenship

Verena Lou Blankenship Vaughn, 91, of Narrows, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, March 29, 2008, from Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.

She was born in Giles County on September 16, 1916 and was the daughter of the late Edward Loman and Sallie Belle King Blankenship. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarence Jackson “Yank” Vaughn; three infant children, Rosetta, Paul David, and Retta Mae Vaughn; four brothers, Clarence, Marvin, Arby and Clifton Blankenship; and two sisters Macie Williams and Irene Hale. She was a faithful member of North Narrows Tabernacle, and was a loving mother and grandmother to many.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Looman J. and Frankie Vaughn, of Narrows; a daughter and her husband, Betty and John Edwards, of Chesterfield, Virginia; six grandchildren, Connie Dalton, Ricky Vaughn, Norma Wood, Tony Vaughn, Jackie Vaughn and Sherry Elwell; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Roxie Fleeman and Inez Smith, both of Narrows; a brother, Gene Blankenship, of Roanoke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1,, 2008, in the chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service, with the Rev. Paul Terry and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery on Blankenship Mountain near Narrows.
